We love Eco friendly solutions - Island guide to greener living
Here are some Eco-friendly non-plastic products you can buy in Ibiza
To show you just how easy it can be to replace some of the plastic products you buy on the island, we have put together this list of eco friendly products that are available from some shops that we checked in Ibiza. By replacing them, you can simply start eliminating your single use plastic waste.
One of the best ways to fight plastic pollution is to live by example and ensure the products you buy are produced with the environment in mind.
Also, don’t forget to share this with your friends and family.
Awareness starts at home and in your family and community of friends. The more friends you convince, the more people you share articles like this one with, the more people will begin using environmentally friendly products in their everyday lives, and that is how we change the mentality of islanders and visitors.
It really is about SMALL changes that can have BIG impacts on your environmental footprint.
1. Coffee Pods
Single-use coffee pods are a terrible and unnecessary waste. They also cannot be recycled!
Help to reduce the "Nespresso" single use plastic pods by getting reusable ones.
Available on Amazon UK
2. Glass Water Bottles
Buy glass bottles whenever you can. Most of restaurants in Ibiza serve still and sparkling water in glass but if they don't you can alway ask for it. Drinking water from glass is a safe, sustainable way with no BPA. Plastic bottles end up in landfills, in our oceans, and in other parts of the environment and contain BPA, a potentially harmful chemical found in plastic products that can leak into the water. You can buy 1 litre glass water bottles at most supermarkets on the island.
If you are looking for refillable 10 litre bottles delivered to your doorstep call Aigua Eivisfreda. They have glass bottles and can install water dispenser for home and offices.
10L glass bottle = 5,60euro

3. Reusable Water Bottle
We absolutely love our reusable water bottles! We take them to work, to hike, to gym and they are so easy to use and clean. You can refill them at home and have them always with you to avoid buying plastic bottles. You save money and you save the planet!
They also keep the heat in the winter and keep cool in the summer.

4. Recycled Toilet Tissue
Recycled toilet paper saves water, trees, and reduces carbon emissions. And it's good for your tushhhhh :) Normal toilet paper is bleached and chemically processed to be white.
You can buy recycled one or bamboo one online as well as at Veritas and Karta Ibiza, details listed below. Check out cute bamboo toilet paper concept by TUSHY.
5. Biodegradable Wet Wipes
People still throw these in toilets after use.
Last year Ibiza’s coastline suffered terribly due to the thousands of wipes stuck to the rock on the coast. Normal wipes are like plastic. They do not disappear. They are horrific!
Ask yourself if you really really need them? And if you do you can get them at Veritas and Garcia de Pou, details listed below.
6. Biodegradable / Disposable Waste Bags
You can buy disposal bags for plastic waste, compostable waste in most supermarkets on the island. If you can't find them ask for help. We also buy 100% compostable garbage bags online from Buttacup or AllBio on Amazon.es
If you are a pet owner you can also get 100% compostable doggy poo poo bags HERE.
7. Reusable Sandwich Wraps
Packed school lunches may seem innocent enough, but when you multiply them by each student at your child’s school and each school in your country, the amount of single-use plastic waste adds up quickly. Plastic is also toxic and the chemicals goes straight into your child's food...
Get in the habit of using recycled paper bags for your children yummy food. Available at Karta and Garcia de Pou, details listed below.
We also LOVE Abeego and Bee's Wrap, genius reusable beeswax wrap that breathes! You can find more info HERE.
8. Recycled Paper
Buy recycled paper in any news agents and paper shop.
Available at Carlin, details listed below.
9. Recycled Aluminium Foil
Aluminium foil is sadly one of the most used home items. As I said before, use recycled paper bags or wrapping and just learn to go without.
What to use instead of aluminum foil? You can replace aluminium with:
For storage choose glass storage containers.
For baking use glass, ceramic, stainless steel and parchment paper.
You can buy eco recycled parchment paper HERE.
10. Wooden Handle Toothbrush
To reduce plastic waste, try out a brush with a bamboo handle or wooden handle.
Available at Natura Ibiza, details listed below.
Also available on Amazon.es HERE
11. Non plastic toys
There are a few shops on the island that sell wooden toys and also toys made from recycled materials. Not a great variety. But if you are interested have a look at these brands: EcoToys, GreenToys, Ethicological.
12. LED Bulbs
LED bulbs can do wonders for conserving energy. Replace your high-energy incandescent, fluorescent and halogen bulbs for once and for all. Read before choosing the best eco friendly brand. Some LED bulbs (cheaper ones can be toxic). We have found THIS supplier who does non toxic bulbs.
Check Fita Ibiza and any hard ware store on the island, details listed below.
13. Low-Flow Shower Head
You can conserve a lot of wasted water with one simple change, using a low-flow shower head.
If you want to read more about different options have a look at this post by A Great Shower. You can order shower heads on Amazon UK and ES and also from Ecoflow.
14. Compostable Cutlery (forks, spoons, knives, bowls straws and tasters)
All of these are used once and thrown away. Parties, birthdays, BBQs, or school lunches can produce a lot of plastic waste. There are so many suppliers out there specialising in bio non-plastic tableware and cutlery. From Avani, VegWare, Bambu, EcoParty, the options are endless. You can buy some of these items at Karta Ibiza and online from Garcia de Pou, details listed below.
If you want to become L.A cool (everyone in LA have one) you can get reusable stainless steel straw and take it with you on a night out. We love them for travelling!
Check them out HERE.
15. Cell phone backs
16. Reusable Shopping Bags
Plastic shopping bags from the grocery store are one of our pet hates!
You can buy a lovely Ibiza basket at any of the local markets and in shops like Can Vinyes in Ibiza Town or Can Escandell in Santa Gertrudis where they are hanging from the ceiling, details listed below.
We also just started to use reusable produce bags for fruit and vegetable storage, made of organic cotton! You simply have to make sure they are always with you in your car or in your handbag. All you have to do is remember to bring them with you! This would eliminate tons and tons of plastic we use while shopping for groceries everyday.
Cotton mesh grocery bags are available from Amazon UK and ES.
You can also get fun little reusable shopping bag HERE.
17. Friendly Washing detergent and house hold cleaning products
We love Ecover and it is available at most of our local Ibiza supermarkets. They smell heavenly as well. Check out Biolindo for more eco bio household products.
At the moment we are using and testing ecological refillable laundry egg, yes it's called ECOEGG and here is the link for all the curious ones!
And if you would like to take it one step further towards Zero Waste Living you can make your own washing liquid, soap, shampoo and scrub! We have found many websites sharing their recipes online and they are really easy to follow.
